role of men in Jewish religion

Most important role as a Jewish male is his role as a scholar. At the age of 13 a boy becomes a “bar mitzvah” which means “Son of the commandment.” This marks the beginning of the boy’s study of the Torah, which is the study he will continue for the rest of his life. Another role of a Jewish man is to be a teacher. They take knowledge and pass it down to younger men. Another role is a prayer leader. The prayer leader as the Chazan in Judaism is the most modern Jewish congregation. It’s a male who is well versed in the prayers and melodies in the Jewish religion. Jewish men are expected to be the head of the household and to provide for their wife and children. Before getting married a Jewish man must sign a “ketuvah” which is a marriage contract that dictates a man providing food and clothing for his wife.

  1. I think that the Jewish community put a lot of pressure on the boys in their community. Having the boys become a man at the young age of 13 is very crazy and they expect them to be very smart. Plus they have to be the sole provider in their families, which means he has to do all he work to feed and clothe his wife. That it is a lot to put on the shoulders of the men in Jewish communities.
